DURHAM, N.C. -- The Duke men’s basketball team led all U.S. collegiate sports programs in social media engagements during the calendar year of 2018. The Blue Devils recorded over 29 million engagements across their social media platforms in 2018, nearly doubling college’s next best program.
The data was compiled via CrowdTangle.com and included engagements on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. Duke’s engagement outpaced college football programs Alabama (13.96 million) and Ohio State (13.79 million). Following the Blue Devils in men’s basketball was Kentucky at 11.25 million engagements.
Duke men’s basketball (@DukeMBB) is the most-followed social media account in college sports with nearly four million followers across Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. The Blue Devils saw their largest social media growth in 2018 on Instagram, adding more than 289,000 followers – a 48% growth to nearly 900,000.
