Tribute to the Deceased: There will be a moment of silence for Clemson University students, faculty and staff who have passed away since last football season. We will also have a moment of silence for the Emanuel 9, who were killed in Charleston on June 17, 2015.
Presentation of Athletes: More than 300 student-athletes will be presented team-by-team.
Honorary Captains: Clemson Greats, Reggie Pleasant and Dan Benish will serve as this week’s honorary captains. Pleasant played defensive back for the tigers from 1982-84 and was selected in the sixth round of the 1985 NFL draft. Benish starred at defensive tackle from 1979-82 and played in the NFL for the Atlanta Falcons and Washington Redskins.
Hero of the Game: This week’s honoree as Hero of the Game is William Bendt, who served in the Army during World War II and received numerous awards including the Presidential Citation and Bronze Star. He recently celebrated his 94th birthday.
Professor of the Game: Dr. Allison Leonard, an associate professor of arts and creativity in the Eugene T. Moore School of Education. She is engaged in merging the worlds of creativity and computational thinking to encourage young women to explore the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Poe Recognition: Betty Poe will be recognized for her Cornersone Gift of $2.5 million to help fund athletic facilities. Ms. Poe and her late husband Billy have been great benefactors of Clemson, and the Poe Plaza between Memorial Stadium and the Scroll of Honor as well as Gate One are named in their honor.
Band Performances: The Clemson University Tiger Band kicks off its 2015 season with a halftime performance that fans don’t want to miss!
