The flag football game featuring former Clemson football players was held at Memorial Stadium prior to the Clemson Spring Game.
The game was played with 20-minute halves with a running clock, but both teams managed to score five touchdowns. The difference came down to the team that was more efficient in scoring conversions after touchdowns.
The game was close throughout as neither team had over a touchdown lead until the second half when Sapp threw an eight-yard scoring pass to Tony DeSue to give the White team a 29-20 lead. The Orange team came back to get within a point on a 25 yard touchdown pass from Homer Jordan to Nelson Faerber and a two point conversion pass from Jordan to Rush Lowther.
But that was as close as the Orange team could get as the teams traded touchdowns late in the game.
Sapp led the White team as the former Clemson quarterback and defensive end completed 26-36 passes for 455 yards and five touchdowns. He quarterbacked the entire game for the White Team. Joel Gardner had five catches for 109 yards and Travis Blanks added six catches for 102 yards for the victorious White team.
Homer Jordan, who quarterbacked Clemson to the 1981 National Championship, completed 15-25 passes for 236 yards and three scores. Lowther completed 8-11 for 180 yards and two scores. One of the touchdowns was an 80-yard play that went to Faerber, who had nine catches for a game high 249 yards and three scores.
