TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State returned to the Albert J. Dunlap Athletic Training Facility for its 11th practice of the spring on Saturday.
The Seminoles practiced for over two hours and worked on several different situations, including redzone, two-minute and third-down plays.
Eighth-year head coach Jimbo Fisher called the day ‘solid’ and said both sides of the ball had their moments during the practice.
“We got a lot of situations worked in, we got a lot of third down, red zone, two-minute and all of that kind of stuff situated,” Fisher said. “We tried to educate them on a lot of more things, offense, defense and special teams. We had a solid day.”
With returning starters Alec Eberle (center) and Landon Dickerson (guard) out for the spring, Fisher has several different options at offensive line, noting the key to success for that group is how the players communicate.
“I don’t care if it is an experienced o-line coming back or not it is all about constant communication,” Fisher said. “It is one of the hardest positions to teach and coach by far. Like I said it is so much harder to be good on offense than it is on defense. The timing, rhythm and communication that must go on. Those guys are working well and getting better. No matter if you have experienced guys or not that o-line is about constant communication. Then you have to communicate with the backs and the tight ends and everyone else too because who they pick up. They have been pretty solid.”
Fisher Meets Moonlight Crew
Director and writer of Moonlight Barry Jenkins as well as editors Joi McMillan and Nat Sanders visited the football offices on Friday and spent time with head coach Jimbo Fisher. Moonlight won the Academy Award for Best Picture earlier this year. Jenkins, McMillan and Sanders are all Florida State alums in addition to several others who worked on the movie.
“That was great,” Fisher said. “To win an Academy Award is great. To come from nowhere like they did and win it. They are great guys, great young people. It was great to see Florida State represented. I am proud of them and happy for them. It makes me proud to be part of Florida State”
