In addition to the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Tournament, College Park plays host to the first round of the men’s tournament on Sunday when Cornell faces Maryland.
The Terps are seeded at #6, but have struggled since their undefeated start ended seven weeks ago at the hands of North Carolina. Poor showings against UNC, Johns Hopkins and Virginia, as well as less-than-stellar victories against Navy and Yale, have raised concerns about how far this team can go.
Last Saturday, the Terps scored their biggest win since February in an 18-6 blowout against Colgate, and they hope to carry some momentum from that victory into the NCAA tournament.
But Cornell will be no easy victim. The Big Red have been held to fewer than 10 goals just once all season, while Maryland has failed to reach that milestone five times in their last seven games.
The teams are prepped for a 1:00 p.m. start on Sunday, and ESPN2 will televise the game. But, as always, students who are still on campus and need a break from final exam preparations are encouraged to come out and help cheer the Terps on to the NCAA quarterfinals.
The winner of Sunday’s contest will face either Ohio State or Towson on Saturday, May 18.
