The Noles defense can play with anyone, but with the young QB James Blackman under center the offense can't seem to get in going on a consistent basis and FSU goes down 31-14.
Travis Etienne rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns, including a 1-yard burst with 3:05 left.
The Tigers (9-1, 7-1, No. 4 CFP) and their dominant defense looked to have this one wrapped up when they opened a 17-0 lead with two minutes left in the third quarter. But the Seminoles rallied on Jacques Patrick's 9-yard scoring run and a double flea-flicker for a 60-yard TD catch by tight end Ryan Izzo.
Florida State then recovered Kelly Bryant's fumble on the Clemson 40 with 6:46 to go, putting the Seminoles in position to spoil the Tigers' College Football Playoff hopes. But safety Van Smith intercepted James Blackman's pass over the middle on the next play, setting up the TD drive that secured the win for the defending national champions.
Etienne had a 25-yard run to the FSU 5 and took it in two plays later as the chilly Death Valley crowd erupted in celebration of a chance for a third straight ACC title in Charlotte in three weeks.
Cornerback Trayvon Mullen knocked away Blackman's fourth-down pass with 2:13 left to end the Seminoles' comeback hopes.
It's the fifth time in coach Dabo Swinney's nine full seasons that he has taken the Tigers to the conference title game. Clemson will face No. 7 Miami, which won the Coastal Division with Virginia's 38-17 loss to Louisville on Saturday.
For Florida State (3-6, 3-5), it marked its first losing ACC record since 2006. And the Seminoles' landmark streak of 35 straight bowl games is in jeopardy, too - they have three games left against Delaware State, rival Florida and Louisiana-Monroe.
Bryant finished with 151 yards passing. He also rushed for 60 yards and a touchdown. Adam Choice had a 10-yard TD run with 35 seconds left for Clemson's final score.

DeMarcus Walker blocked Miami kicker Michael Badgley’s point-after attempt with 1:38 remaining, and No. 23 Florida State escaped with the victory, winning 20-19. See Highlights below.
Florida State’s leading tackler Reggie Northrup takes pride in the way he takes down opposing ball carriers.
“I take a lot of pride in it,” Northrup said. “I know it’s a skill set that I continue to work on and get better at.”
The junior linebacker from Jacksonville, Fla., credits some of his tackling prowess to wrestling in high school.
“I used to watch that WWE stuff, but I was interested in the real kind of wrestling” Northrup said. “I tried it out and I happened to be pretty good at it. Your leverage, it helps make your hips better. Your pad level, your able to get lower and being able to grab and wrap up.”
Not only was he a two-time Florida state qualifier on the mat, but he immediately saw dividends on the football field.
“Wrestling in high school took my game play to a whole other level,” Northrup said. “Especially being a linebacker I’d just go out there in games and start doing things better. My fundamentals, I was able to stay low and read stuff.”
The Florida State Seminoles proved that they are the #1 team in the nation by beating the Miami Hurricanes. Were the Canes a top team in the nation? "No", but this is the thing -- all of the other so called better teams with blemished records all could not handle adversity.
Mississippi the current #1 lost to Alabama today who has a loss.
Alabama lost to Ole Miss who has proven to be a fraud.
TCU really, come on they're just getting to the point where they can shop in the mens section, oh and they have a loss.
Oregon, year after year they prove they can run up the score until it's time to play with the big boys and they have a loss to an unranked Arizona team. What excuse can ESPN make for them, Oh the have Phil Knight NIKE marketing dollars.
The only thing that anyone can say about the Seminoles is they are not as dominant as last year -- and my answer to that is "You don't get this years Trophy for what you did last year."
This gets even better -- the quarterback, the trouble maker guy, the one with no character, the guy that no team should draft -- Jameis Winston is the best quarterback in the nation, will be the #1 pick in the draft as he is a top 15 quarterback in the NFL today if he were to suit up tomorrow.
Don't be surprised if Jameis Winston is accused of 5 more allegations tomorrow (click the link here they go)as it seems all the talking heads with the squeeky clean closets will come up with reasons why Mr. Winston should not be praised for his Balls of Steel.
Jameis Winston has been spotted in ISIS training camp with rebel forces. His troops who have remained stealth in FSU Seminoles uniforms and have been wreaking havok on opposing defenses.
ESPN has been trying to put a stop to the Noles dominance, but Jameis's troops have been able to withstand the negativity and remain undefeated during his tenure.
Jameis Winston has been under surveillance by B613 AKA the NCAA. Amongst the many allegations they have been unable to give him the death sentence. The only thing they have been able to confirm is that Jameis is sleeping with President Grant's mistress Olivia Pope. Unknowingly Jameis has been entering opposing stadiums with a bouty on his head from Jake Ballard one of Olivia's other lovers.

Jameis Winston has been dropping bombs all over the nation for the last 22 games. He has been accused of a lot of things but none more serious than when CIA Agent Carrie Mathison accused Jameis of being turned by al-Qaeda.
