North Carolina quarterback Marquise Williams threw five touchdown passes in the first half. T.J. Logan scored four touchdowns to help North Carolina to a record-setting 80-20 victory over Old Dominion on Saturday.
The Tar Heels set all-time records for points and touchdowns by the midpoint of the third quarter, and Williams set the single-game record for total yards on the Tar Heels' fourth snap of the second half.
Belmont's J.J. Mann killed the Tar Heels to the tune of 28 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and a three pointer with 13 seconds left to close the deal.
The Tar Heels left Belmont in the game early and the longer they hung around the more confident they became. James Michael McAdoo led UNC with 27 points and 13 rebounds but was not enough to lift the Heels to victory in the Dean Dome.
It was North Carolina's first nonconference home loss since falling to Illinois in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge eight years ago.
Coach Roy Williams will definitely use this loss to get the Heels more focused and to take every game seriously.
The North Carolina Tarheels come into Columbia, South Carolina to take on the #6 nationally ranked Gamecocks of the Souteastern Conference.
The ACC has not had much success with the SEC teams as of late -- but that's no reason to roll over and play dead. I think that UNC has to show that they can compete with the Big Boys to gain some respect.
Tonight though it looks like the Heels have the deer in headlights look as the Gamecocks are dominating the line of scrimmage. The Gamecocks QB Connor Shaw has a couple of TD passes and looks much more athletic than the Heel QB Bryn Renner. Down 13 at the half the Tarheel are in the game and need to figure out a way to run the football.
North Carolina Tar Heels Alum Danny Green Drops 27 on the Heat in NBA Finals
The San Antonio Spurs take a 2-1 advantage over the Miami Heat in the 2013 NBA Finals behind great shooting of Danny Green. The 36 point Spurs blow out of the Heat, 13-77 is amazing considering Tony Parker out most of the game.
Green who won a NCAA Championship at North Carolina his senior year is shooting lights out in the NBA Finals. His 27 points 7 for 9 from 3 point range led the Spurs to breaking the all time made 3 pointers in an NBA game with 16.
Green has also taken spot duty guarding LeBron James who is considered the best player on the planet. But for now Green has been the best player on the court in the finals. He also hit 5 straight 3 point shots in a game 2 loss in Miami.
Right now Danny Green is headed toward an NBA Championship and Finals MVP the way he is shooting. Tar Heels Nation should be proud of this young man as he has put in the work to become the player he is today.
See video of all Danny Greens 27 points against the Miami Heat below.
Jeff Withey proved to be formidable big man as he dominated the Tarheels inside and filled the stat sheet as he scored 16 point, grabbed 16 rebounds and 5 blocked shots.
Though the Tarheels were up nine at the half 30-21, the Jayhawks closed that gap in the second half and never looked back as they rolled to a 70-58 win in the 3rd round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Tarheels were led by sophmore guard P.J. Hairston who contributed 15 points and 9 rebounds. Mr. Hairston had a great ACC Tournament, NCAA Tournament and proved that he's a force to be reconed with. Roy Williams will be very fortunate if he can keep P.J. in the college ranks for at least one more season.
