The Virginia Cavaliers put up a valiant effort on the road in College Park, but come up short in a 27-26 loss against the Maryland Terps.
Cavs field goal kicker Alec Vozenilek kicked three field goals on the day – though the one that will be remembered is the 42-yard attempt sailed wide right with 10 seconds remaining, which would have won the game.
Quarterback David Watford went 27 for 44 for 263 yards and a score. Tight end Jake McGee had eight catches for 114 yards. Kevin Parks ran for 112 yards and a touchdown, and Khalek Shepherd contributed 81 yards rushing to an offense that amassed 505 yards.
Looking at the stats alone you would’ve assumed that the Cavs won this game – but it was a definite heart breaker. To lose like this and extend a three game skid, makes for a long bus ride back to Charlottesville.
The North Carolina Tarheels, NC State Wolfpack, Virginia Cavaliers and the Florida State Seminoles all make it to the NCAA College World Series in Omaha.
